Transforming an old school into a luxurious home might sound like it could be hard to picture. Well, Tamarkin Co, in partnership with CL Investment Group, just unveiled a stunning model residence designed by Charlie Ferrer of FERRER, who transformed an historic Catholic school into a luxurious oasis.
Located at 555 West End Avenue, the Beaux Arts Building was built in 1908 and includes incredible features like ceilings that range from 12 to nearly 20 feet in some units and massive windows that bring in natural light.
“The marriage of Tamarkin Co.’s signature spare modernist aesthetic with the historical bones of 555 West End Avenue provided the ideal envelope for me to create something that felt both inspired and fresh, said Charlie Ferrer. “The building integrates seamlessly the best of modern conveniences with the charm of pre-war living. My interiors reflect this balance. Vintage and custom pieces intermix with supple textiles and floor coverings throughout the project. The result is an urbane home that is uniquely comfortable, highly livable and inspiring in its eclecticism.”

The model home also includes five-bedrooms, 4.5-bathrooms, an expansive kitchen adorned with solid white oak cabinetry handcrafted by Christopher Peacock, honed Pietra Cardosa stone floors, polished Arabescato marble slab countertops and backsplashes, Wolf, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances. Hand-selected Calacatta Gold marble slabs, Lefroy Brooks fixtures and modern interior features, such as Italian vintage pieces, custom artwork, mid century chandeliers, and details like a hand-painted Art& Deco-esque ceiling mural.

The furniture and lighting collection includes vintage designs such as a coffee table by Jacques Adnet from 1949 and a pair of Raphael Raffel Ambassador armchairs dating from 1950, alongside contemporary designs, such as the pair of Andrew Hughes Porto table lamps specifically commissioned for the master bedroom. The soft highly-textural palette supports statement design pieces and the anchoring artworks, which includes Labirinto, a monumental abstract painting by Marco Lorenzetto and Transition #8, a large-format contemporary photograph by Ricardo Hoseguera. Additional amenities in the building include a 24-hour doorman, fitness center, stroller valet, residents lounge, recreation room with pool table and dart board, additional cold storage, and bike storage.
Pricing starts at $7.9 million for a four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom flat. Occupancy is slated for early 2019 and the property will be co-listed through Sotheby’s International Realty and Stribling Marketing Associates.
