Most people Down Under know who Jamie Durie is. The renowned horticulturist, landscape and furniture designer, Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medalist, and author is famed for being on TV shows like ‘Australia’s Best Backyards,’ ‘Curb Appeal Xtreme,’ ‘House Rules,’ ‘Backyard Takeover,’ and many more.
But, while seeing his work on-screen may seem normal, this new listing near Sydney gives a rare peek at an estate he owns and spent the last five years painstakingly creating from scratch. Finally finished in 2025, the six-bedroom stunner dubbed Belah House is now seeking $21.5 million USD, or $33 million AUD.
Durie tapped Silvester Fuller Architects to work with on the ambitious project, which is located on a sloping site in Avalon Beach and had a distinctive, stacked look with five levels. The home, as well as its unsurprisingly breathtaking gardens, starts below street level and descends all the way down to the shore to create a private, hillside retreat in harmony with the land.
As well as the nature-centric and organic aesthetics, which provide an energizing sense of place in Australia especially, the home’s eco-friendly engineering and sustainable technology stands out on the market. Durie outfitted the property with solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, an internal air purification system, and 57,000 Liter water storage so whoever buys it can live fully off-grid if they wish or when situations call for it. Other incredible perks to look forward to include an infinity pool, ocean pool, dock, rooftop garden, and an utterly blissful wellness zone with a gym, sauna, ice bath, and steam room. With so many eye-catching elements, and that’s not even getting into each design detail, it’s no wonder it took Durie half a decade to bring this pricey, one-of-a-kind residence to life.
The designer told the Robb Report, “It’s the toughest project I’ve ever taken on, however, it’s the culmination of everything I’ve learned in 30 years in the design industry. It’s a legacy project.”
James Baker and Adrian Venturi of McGrath, a partner of Knight Frank, holds the ultra-luxury listing.
