Copper Beech Farm Sells for $139M, Becoming Connecticut’s Most Expensive Residential Sale Ever

Cooper Beech Farm in Greenwich has gained real estate fame all over again. In 2014, the more than 50-acre property sold for $120 million to an LLC, clenching the title as the most expensive single-family home sold in the U.S. at the time, according to Greenwich Time. Many sales have surpassed it since then, but just last week, the address broke another coveted record. Closing for a staggering 138,830,000, it has now become the most expensive residential property ever sold in Connecticut.

The impressive property came to market just five months ago asking $150 million. To find a buyer and close so quickly at this price point is no small feat, but listing agents Leslie McElwreath and Joseph Barbieri of Sotheby’s International Realty pulled it off, with Stephanie Bo Li of Douglas Elliman representing the buyer.

Whoever purchased the property pocketed prestige, to be sure, but most importantly a ritzy residence with everything at their fingertips. As the largest waterfront parcel in Greenwich, it provides a beautiful backdrop for all sorts of outdoor activities. The pool, Wimbledon-esque grass tennis court, gardens, apple orchards, and two private beaches offer something for every whim and every season.

Oozing aristocratic vibes, the grand 13,510-square-foot main house with two French Renaissance-style stone towers holds eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Water views abound from each room, and many spaces feature 12-foot ceilings as well as fine details from oak paneling to plaster friezes. Tucked privately at the end of the 1,800 driveway, this crowning home is kept company by a carriage house, gatehouse, pool house, and two greenhouses.

Despite its name, perhaps the only thing you won’t find at Copper Beech Farm is livestock or riding facilities. That didn’t deter the buyer, whose identity is unknown.
