The late David Murdock’s Fifth Avenue residence is looking for its next owner. Murdock was a billionaire and CEO of Dole Food Company, and now, his duplex maisonette is listed for $14.995 million.
Listing agents Tom Postilio and Mickey Conlon describe the property as offering “the autonomy typically associated with townhouses, but with the full array of services and amenities of a white-glove Fifth Avenue co-op.”
Directly across from Central Park, a private entrance opens into an entry gallery with a grand staircase. Traditional details carry throughout the residence, from custom built-ins and colorful decorative paneling to wood-burning fireplaces. Yellow-and-white wainscoting brings a playful touch to the otherwise traditional interiors, while upholstered walls add warmth and texture.
Large windows fill the residence with natural light, while additional features include a fireplace in the primary suite, a breakfast room and built-in wine storage in the kitchen.
The Renaissance Palazzo–style building was designed by architect James E.R. Carpenter and completed in 1926. Over the years, the building has attracted several notable New Yorkers, including Richard Nixon and Nelson Rockefeller, who reportedly lived in the building during the 1968 presidential campaign.
The next chapter of this storied residence is being brokered by Tom Postilio, Mickey Conlon and Jennifer Rahilly of Compass.
