Diane Keaton’s Beloved, Pinterest-Inspired L.A. Home Relists Following Her Passing

Less than two months after the unexpected passing of A-list actress and style icon Diane Keaton, her final Los Angeles home has come to market. The industrial meets farmhouse-style residence, which inspired her book “The House That Pinterest Built,” first listed this spring for $28.9 million and is now for sale again priced at $26.9 million.

Keaton, who had a fervent passion for architecture and home projects throughout her life, purchased this property in Sullivan Canyon in 2011, per public records. She went on to renovate the existing structure entirely, scouring Pinterest for ideas and tapping architect David Takacs and designers Stephen Shadley, Cynthia Carlson, and Toben Windahl to work on its lengthy transformation.

The result is a 9,200-square-foot, fire-resistant masterpiece that reflects Keaton’s renowned taste and zest for life. You can see oversized lanterns throughout, almost nodding to the late actor’s love of large yet refined hats, as well as a primarily black-and-white palette that feels utterly natural if you’ve seen many of her outfits. The actress was also sure to infuse her identity as a native Californian, both with written signs inside and out and laidback plantings.

Further personal elements that feel especially poignant now include the wallcovering with the poem, “Lucky Life,” by Gerald Stern as well as the interiors’ constant reference to time. Not only can you spot many whimsical clocks throughout the spaces, but there is a bold-font quote near built-in bookshelves that reads, “Look, we don’t have that much time.” A message to cherish life and the minutes, days, and years we have.

Of course, her five-bedroom abode adorned in vintage Chicago bricks has many luxury aspects, too. The gated estate holds a guest house, pool and spa, an expansive primary suite, and a bright chef’s kitchen, which was Keaton’s favorite room. Equestrians are also sure to appreciate that it’s steps from serene horse trails.

Andrew Gulyas of Destination Homes, who often represented Keaton in real estate dealings, holds the special listing.
