Iconic Stars Audrey Hepburn and Deborah Kerr Both Lived at This Brentwood Beauty That Just Sold

In Los Angeles, Brentwood balances quiet affluence with a distinctly cinematic past. Its streets haven been home to a rotating cast of Hollywood legends over the years, and at 685 Elkins Road, that legacy feels especially tangible. After more than three decades under the same ownership, the home that Audrey Hepburn famously rented from Deborah Kerr has been sold for $9.4 million.

Built in 1939, the residence reflects the graceful poise and elegance associated with both iconic leading ladies. The home first listed almost a year ago for $10.9 million, and with such a prominent price tag, it promised beautiful traditional Georgian architecture and modern updates. A verdant lanai frames the entrance, complete with a fireplace, built-in heaters, and a front-row view of the slick putting green. Other delicious, traditional elements include wood paneling in the library, hand-painted red wallpaper in the dining room, and a whimsical Palm Beach-esque conservatory. The new homeowner will get to lounge and entertain in these inviting yet grand spaces just as Hepburn and Kerr did in Hollywood’s glamorous heyday.

In the early 1950s, the house was owned by Mildred and Edwin Knopf, relatives of Alfred Knopf, one of the most profound publishers in America. Then, Kerr picked up the property in 1953, leasing it to Hepburn twice while she was off filming.

There are five bedrooms and six full bathrooms across the two floors. Upstairs, the primary suite is quite luxurious, with dual-spa bathrooms, walk-in closets, and a balcony overlooking the carefully manicured front lawn. The property also includes a pool and trails throughout the neighboring woods. It still feels like a hideaway for quiet amongst the noise, which is what many stars look for in a Los Angeles home.

Jennifer Montague and The Larson Burmester Group, both of Sotheby’s International Realty, represented the sellers. Interested in where other beloved actress have lived in L.A.? Check out Diane Keaton, Renée Zellweger, and, J. Lo‘s former homes.
