Minecraft Creator Lists Southern California Home for a Staggering $70M

Minecraft creator Markus Persson created a world where players use digital “Legos” to build houses, castles, cities, and more. It’s no surprise that his real-life home is a masterwork in luxury composition. And now, Persson has listed 1181 Hillcrest Road, tucked in the elite neighborhood of Trousdale Estates for a whopping $70 million.

Boasting panoramic views from downtown LA to the waters of Malibu Beach, the eight-bedroom, 15-bathroom estate is worth its price tag. In fact, it set a city record in 2014 when Perrson made the purchase, reportedly outbidding Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who toured the home several times. The sale helped turn Hillcrest into Beverly Hills’ “Billionaires Row,” where $50 million to $100 million homes are now the norm.

“This estate is truly a standout among Beverly Hills properties,” listing agent Aaron Kirman tells dailyDEEDS. “The vision and execution of the developer are evident throughout, and together with updates from the owner, every detail creates something truly remarkable.”

Those details include an open-plan chef’s kitchen and living area wrapped in glass walls for a near 180-degree view of downtown LA. The basement, meanwhile, is a haven for entertaining, with a private nightclub and DJ booth, dance floor, and indoor movie theater. A complete gym and multimillion-dollar professional recording studio round out the A-list amenities.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see another big celeb take interest in the estate. Elvis Presley lived a few doors down at 1174 N. Hillcrest, and St. Jude founder Danny Thomas resides next door. Maybe Jay Z and Beyonce will return to give it another look, this time around?

Aaron Kirman and Katia De Los Reyes of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California and Branden Williams and Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates share the listing.
