According to a recent report by Deloitte, women’s sports are projected to generate around $3 billion in global revenue this year. And the luxury sector is starting to take note. Take, for example, this newly completed estate in Alpine, NJ. Currently the most expensive home on the market in Alpine, 10 Frick Drive asks $21 million.
The price tag is due to its 24,000-square-foot expanse, with nine bedrooms and 11 full bathrooms (plus three half baths). And the design isn’t your typical cookie-cutter athlete’s mega-mansion. Architect Wells Megalli of Person Place Thing had feminine energy in mind, keeping a keen eye on scale. For example, the east and west wings (which feature an indoor pool and spa as well as three kitchens and a family room) offer roomy, indoor/outdoor spaces for entertaining and gathering. Bedrooms and bathrooms, meanwhile offer a more modest scale to focus on privacy for the single occupant.

Throughout, the firm paid careful consideration to materials that would connect each space in the hulking layout. “Although the program consists of several distinct rooms, we connected every space using materials and color,” Megalli confirms. “The most experiential feature is a hand-screened silk mural which starts in the pool area and then winds down the stairs to the spa below.”
Beautiful millwork is paired with high-end fixtures, like the enamel La Cornue stove in one of the home’s three kitchens and the family room’s black Nero Marquina marble fireplace. “We also layered in unexpected modern colors, plumbing collections, mosaics, wall coverings, door hardware, and lighting to bring a modern touch to the exuberant traditional architecture,” the architect adds. To keep the home grounded in natural elements, the team used linen, grasscloth, and silk on the walls in neutral colors.

This pairing of soft and strong is a thread that extends throughout the house. “We wanted to bring a sense of femininity to the spa and pool wing,” Megalli notes. “We were imagining a strong, calm, grounded, and luminous woman using this space and we wanted to create an environment that amplified those qualities. We used very soft colors, a custom mural that bring nature in, and monolithic snowy glass mosaic that creates a serene and modern backdrop. It looks incredible when there is snow outside. We extended this approach to the primary suite directly above the spa with pale blue, travertine, and again, the snowy white tiles.”
