Is it too late to have a Irish summer? Almost, but there’s still time, especially for those with deep pockets.
Imagine spending any season at this residence where historic Georgian architectural and contemporary, fashion-forward design meet unexpectedly. Spanning approximately 75 acres of land and fairly close to Dublin, Emsworth is asking €9.25 million, which converts to about $10.5 million USD currently.
Lots of properties in Ireland are steeped in history, but it’s pretty rare to find an estate of this size and prestige available so close to the country’s capital. Built in 1794, the manor was designed by one of Dublin’s most influential architects, James Gandon, and is defined by its symmetry and white brick facade. It’s reminiscent of Gandon’s other renowned works, such as the Four Courts, the Custom House, and the King’s Inns.
The current owner purchased the property in 2013 and partnered with the award-winning firm Henry J Lyons Architects and Ventura Design to thoughtfully expand and remodel the interiors. Completed in 2024, the home now spans over 7,100 square feet, offering five reception rooms, four bedrooms, and two additional bedrooms in the guest house. A combination of original features, including sash windows, a cantilevered staircase, and ceiling cornicing, cleverly contrasts some of the more modern design choices. The rooms reveal their own distinct personality, from formal and regal to fresh and contemporary. The kitchen, with its walls of steel glass windows and black cabinetry, harkens to a brand-new California modern, for example.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an aristocratic estate without an abundance of things to do. There is a fully-equipped gym, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, and sports courts for those who often get active. If you prefer to take it slow, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a covered entertainment space, a sauna, and exquisite gardens are also enticing. Bringing some quirky history, the property even holds a now-blocked and filled tunnel, rumored to have been constructed by Gandon to link Emsworth to the neighboring estate.
With a mix of myth and grandeur, the estate seems ready for a new golden age of stories and soirées. James Butler & Josh Pim of Savills UK holds the listing.
