Acclaimed fashion designer Richard Tyler, who began his career creating stage clothes for Elton John, Cher, Rod Stewart and Diana Ross, is no stranger to color, texture, and creating a mesmerizing mood. That’s why it’s such a treat to see the California home he and his wife, Lisa Trafficante, have cherished for nearly three decades, which draws you in from every vantage point. The designer acquired the over 100-year-old South Pasadena estate in 1998, but not in the typical way. Dr. John Stewart Tanner commissioned architect Reginald Johnson to design Villa Arno in 1916. Before the project was complete, however, he sold it to Dr. Arno Behr, an internationally renowned chemist who gave the property its enduring name. After the Behr family left in 1931, there were only three more sets of owners before Tyler moved in, including a notable L.A. interior designer in the 1930s.
