Fashion Designer Trina Turk’s Colorful, 1960s Palm Springs Pad Hits the Market

Palm Springs is not just known for its spa and golf scene, desert landscape, hiking, and proximity to the annual Coachella Festival, which is wrapping up this weekend. It’s a utopia of midcentury architecture, Old Hollywood legacy, and suave design sensibilities.

You can see this all over the sun-kissed area with homes like Cary Grant’s legendary getaway, Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s Honeymoon spot, and Zsa Zsa Gabor’s glamorous former residence. Set just two hours from L.A., the rich and famous still flock here today as well. Recently, fashion designer Trina Turk listed her mountainside Palm Springs retreat for $3.495 million, which gives a dreamy peek into her world and vivacious home style.

Built in 1963, the three-bedroom sanctuary known as Soleil House was designed by celebrated architect Harold Bissner, Sr. At that time, Bissner had just arrived in the leisure-oriented area following a long and distinguished career in Los Angeles. After commissioning the home, the same family held onto it for decades. When Turk came along, she couldn’t help but reimagine its gorgeous spaces with her exceptional eye for aesthetics. This has been her first solo residential renovation.

The clean-lined stunner includes elements like a sunken living room, open floor plan, and vast walls of glass showing off Palm Springs views. Turk added to this allure with more color, pattern, and chic pizzazz while staying true to the grooviness of the midcentury era. Just take a look at the emerald-green tiles in the kitchen, the striped bar area, and the sultry accent lighting throughout.

Turk also crafted inviting atmospheres outside so one can enjoy the soothing desert air. A huge, wraparound covered terrace and a fabulous pool area beckon for decadent parties or daily lounging in style. In fact, Soleil House hosted a VIP cocktail party to celebrate Palm Springs’ world-renowned Modernism Week this year.
