There is perhaps no front door more famous in London, and the address can be yours for £7.5 million GBP, or just shy of $10 million USD. The Westbourne Park Road residence was made famous in the 1999 blockbuster, Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
It was then home to screenwriter Richard Curtis. Reportedly, when production designer Stuart Craig selected it for protagonist William Thacker’s abode, he didn’t realize it belonged to the film’s writer. The actual 19th-century door was later sold at Christie’s for charity, but, not to worry—its replacement has been painted the same iconic cobalt.
And, the interiors are equally impressive. “Everyone recognizes this house from the street—it is a true Notting Hill landmark,” listing agent Josh Ratcliffe tells dailyDEEDS. “But behind that famous façade lies a highly discreet, generational home that has always changed hands privately and never once been openly marketed.”
What catches visitors off guard, he says, is the sheer scale. Indeed, the home offers 2,752 square feet with a 29-foot roof terrace. Both are a rarity in Central London. “You would typically have to look at the city’s outer edges to find space like this,” he adds. “But because it is a beautifully converted chapel, it has extraordinary ceiling heights and an incredible level of privacy that feels entirely tucked away from the world.”
Originally conceived as an artist’s studio, the house features a dramatic vaulted ceiling, with exposed roof trusses, a series of skylights, and a first-floor gallery. Dark timber floors and a stone fireplace bring warmth to the open plan. There are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms.
For Julia Roberts fans and design lovers alike, Josh Ratcliffe of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
