Imagine Dragons Bassist Ben McKee Lists Tranquil Oakland, CA Retreat

Imagine Dragons has spent years on the road performing, and the internationally-acclaimed band is currently on tour now, in fact. That’s why the band’s longtime bass guitarist, Ben McKee, and his wife, Mary, knew they wanted a calming home where they could decompress from their busy lives and secured this spot in the luscious hills of Montclair, an enclave of Oakland, CA with gorgeous Bay Area views. Now those seeking that same type of serenity can find it on Virgo Road, where the McKees just listed their verdant property for $1.295 million.

“Life on Virgo Road has been filled with some pretty incredible memories,” said Ben McKee. “It is a very special place and I will never forget the time that we spent there. I’ve never lived in a place like it and I know that I will never find another place like it.”

When McKee wasn’t busy touring or recording, the pair spent $1 million renovating the shingle-style residence, putting an emphasis on upgrading the kitchen that was originally designed for a chef. Two industrial size faucets, central island and numerous other high-quality finishes create the ultimate workspace—one that well-known chef Ming Tsai has spent time in with the McKees.

The open-concept home is completed with unique details like sturdy wood beams and bespoke moldings, all of which come together in perfect harmony. Sitting at 2,700 square feet, there was more than enough space for the couple to host numerous gatherings, whether that be inside or out. Ben and Mary even celebrated their wedding with a photoshoot in the terraced garden.

Who could ever complain about watching the sunset over the San Francisco skyline while sitting in the primary suite-adjacent hot tub or front porch. Surely selling this home was not easy for the pair, but those who appreciate a refuge away from the intensity of the city can find their next home here on Virgo Road.
