Newly divorced Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, just treated himself some new digs in New York City. After weeks of apartment hunting, he’s landed the three-floored penthouse at 212 Fifth Avenue – and the two apartments directly below. The three-condo spread cost him an estimated $80 million according to reports by the Wall Street Journal. A hefty price, but when your net-worth is $150 billion, $80 million seems like a steal. The condos are impressive, with the three homes spanning a combined 17,000-square-feet and boasting 12 bedrooms. Architect David Helpern worked closely with interior design firm Pembrooke & Ives to create contemporary and luxurious spaces in the building, which dates back to 1912. Fresh white walls and gorgeous herringbone hardwood floors outfit most of the space, with the exception of a few gallery walls sprinkled throughout. The foyer acts as a central focal point, complete with coffered ceilings and exquisite marble floors. The closed kitchen has a streamlined appeal, with all Gaggerau appliances nestled into the light-wood cabinetry andCalacotta marble countertops radiate extravagance. The stunning master bath offers heated Thassos stone flooring with Carrara marble walls, a steam shower, and a sophisticated solid surface Lacava tub.Through its oversized windows, the building features stunning views of the iconic Flatiron building, One World Trade Center, and Madison Square Park. A 24-hour doorman and concierge, Jay Wright-designed fitness center, golf simulator, and screening room are included on the long list of amenities, in addition to a penthouse-private elevator and rooftop terraces. With this acquisition, the richest man in the world will close the second largest deal this year, just behind Ken Griffin’s $240M purchase in Central Park.John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens represented Bezos in this deal, and Nikki Field, Brad Ingalls, Mara Flash Blum, and Kevin B. Brown of Sotheby’s International Realty share the listing.
