A Victorian gem on Sag Harbor’s Bay Street is soon to change hands, with quite the famous (and opinionated) seller behind it. Joy Behar, who has appeared on The View for nearly three decades, has been the 1903-built home’s steward for 10 years and has been trying to sell it off and on since November 2024. Listing it with Ed Gaetjens and John F. Wines of Saunders & Associates this spring for $6.995 million seemed to finally strike the right note as the charming property is now in contract.
According to Gaetjens, Behar bought the 4,500-square-foot home in the condition you see today and didn’t execute any big renovations while living here. He shared, “It’s beautiful old Victorian, but it needs some love. The new owners plan on bringing it back to its former glory.”
For many, however, such a project is a dream to find. Every outdated element or unwanted quirk is a chance to reimagine the spaces and infuse timeless elegance into the antique home. Anyone can see the place has great bones: Tons of natural light, five grand fireplaces, a huge front porch, and four bedrooms for hosting weekend guests. Critically, the tree-filled corner lot also affords great privacy as well as a pool for splashing around or lounging.
But, Behar isn’t going far. Gaetjens told dailyDEEDS® that she’s already purchased a new Sag Harbor home. “She’s staying in Sag Harbor, she’s not leaving the community. Just downsizing a bit,” the agent explained. He added, “She was a pleasure to work with—a great person, funny, kept us on our toes.”
When the sale goes through, it will be the end of an era for Behar, but not the end of her time in the Hamptons, which she famously loves.
