Last fall, not long after he passed away in January 2025, the Los Angeles residence of Hollywood great, David Lynch, hit the market. Widely regarded as one of the most talented filmmakers of all time, Lynch had a unique eye for stories and art that translated into the type of properties he sought out as well. Tucked appropriately in the Hollywood Hills, this midcentury gem known as Beverly Johnson House became his cherished home in 1987. It now has a new steward, changing hands recently for $13 million.
Perched on a tree-filled, 2.3-acre lot, the architectural prize was designed by Lloyd Wright, Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, in 1963. Its brutalist exterior has a stark look, yet draws you in warmly with its light pink color almost reminiscent of Palm Springs. Inside, the midcentury sensibilities have been lovingly preserved. It still looks as if you’re stepping into the groovy 1960s thanks to geometric fireplaces, clean wood accents, and open spaces with large windows.
Lynch also improved upon the property and left his mark, turning it into a hillside compound. The actor kept the Lloyd Wright legacy going, this time tapping Eric Lloyd Wright to design the property’s pool and pool house. You can see the continuity and honor to the original structure in these further creations. Triangular shapes tie to the main house and make it seem like these elements were all built at the same time. A two-level guest house was also built close by.
In total, the new owner gains approximately 11,000 square feet of living space and 10 bedrooms. Most of all, they get to be part of the architectural and film history weaved deeply into this L.A. address.
