Lily Allen and David Harbour’s Expressive Brooklyn Brownstone Hits the Market for $8M

A celebrity-owned townhouse just listed in Carroll Gardens, and it won’t be a surprise to many people plugged into pop culture or music news. It’s owned by singer-songwriter Lily Allen and ‘Stranger Things’ star David Harbour, who married in 2020 but split last year, and was recently mentioned quite a bit on Allen’s cathartic new album, West End Girl. Most notably, the musician talks about when they found and bought the posh home in her album’s titular song. Now, as the two part ways, their unabashedly whimsical brownstone is asking $7.995 million.

Though the four-level home was built in 1899, it has been majorly reimagined under the famous sellers. They brought on architect Ben Bischoff of MADE and designer Billy Cotton to make it their own, with each having their essential components. In a video house tour with AD, Allen shared how she has always wanted a “plain English kitchen” and fulfilled that wish here, though the space is hardly plain. Elegant, well-edited, and bright, it’s a refined and functional heart of the home.

The rest of the interiors are imaginative and loud in comparison, prioritizing creativity rather than a subdued sense of calm. The green garden room cloaked in Zuber wallpaper sits near the kitchen, making it the natural salon for everyday living or hosting. The primary suite’s Parisian-esque room for luxurious bathing or lounging was Harbour’s brain child, boasting gold swan faucets, overwhelming florals, and even a groovy refrigerator. According to the AD tour, going full-blown tiger print in the media room was Allen’s idea, so both homeowners embraced a maximalist environment.

Other additions include the Finnish sauna and cold plunge hut in the garden, which isn’t a typical find in New York City. Not everything is new, of course. Original moldings and arched doorways harken to the home’s 126-year history. Buyers can also expect to find five bedrooms in total, including a useful guest suite.

Carl Gambino of Compass holds the high-profile Brooklyn listing.
