The home of late pop artist Roy Lichtenstein remains on the Hamptons market nearly a year after being listed for the first time in over 50 years, but has a newly drawn-up price tag of $17.95 million. The legendary artist and his wife, Dorothy Lichtenstein, bought the Southampton property in 1970—just seven years before the artist’s death. Last September, the Southampton property came to the market for $19.995 million following Dorothy’s passing.
Situated at 50 Gin Lane, a coveted street just moments from the beach, the historic home is more traditional than one might expect from the bold artist—whose world-famous portfolio of work includes colorful, contemporary art inspired by comics. The property was originally part of a 10-acre estate called ‘Meadow Beach,’ which was owned by financier Henry M. Day. While the Lichtensteins made updates and expansions to the circa-1897 home, the lot includes Meadow Beach’s original entry gate.
The three-story shingle-style house spans 5,825 square feet, with five bedrooms and six full bathrooms. Terraces, decks, and balconies allow for soaking in the salt air and ocean breezes. The almost-two-acre property enchants with mature cypress, umbrella pine, and cryptomeria trees, and perennial gardens. There is also a private pathway with beach access.
For those interested in acquiring this art history-rich home with a new price tag, Harald Grand and Bruce Gant of Sotheby’s International Realty represents the listing. Alternatively, the property Dorothy Lichtenstein held with her partner later in life, sculptor Hal Buckner, is also listed nearby.
