Comedian and former TV star and talk show host Rosie O’Donnell just parted ways with this modern NYC penthouse she’s held since 2017. The sale comes just as she is settling into life in Ireland as an expat.
In March, she confirmed that she and her 12-year-old child, Clay, moved across the pond due to the political climate in the US. O’Donnell isn’t the only celebrity turning her gaze abroad. Ellen Degeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi also recently sold a California home amidst their move to England.
O’Donnell originally purchased this suave penthouse back in 2017 for $8 million. Since first listing in 2023 for $8.3 million, the home went through price cuts and agent changes until it finally found a buyer. Records show that the deal closed for $4.75 million at the end of April, which is roughly half of what the comedian was hoping for. However, another penthouse in the building sold around the same time for $4.5 million, so it seems the celeb is in good company.
Located in Turtle Bay on East 49th Street, the 3,300-square-foot pad offers views of the East River and glassy, sleek interiors. It spans two interior levels and is topped by a glitzy 1,620-square-foot rooftop terrace. With so much space and style, the buyer got a good deal.
The main floor is a dream for entertaining, anchored by a chef’s kitchen that is dressed to the nines with double appliances from Miele and Gaggenau. The dining room next door is illuminated by a skylight and a window bench area, perfect for sitting in the sun. Separate from the living areas, the primary bedroom awaits with a spa-like ensuite complete with an oval soaking tub and heated floors.
A curving sculptural staircase brings you to the lower level with an two additional bedrooms and bathrooms, providing privacy for overnight visitors. It also boasts a two-person, Swedish-inspired sauna and a separate jacuzzi so the new owner can indulge in wellness.
