Rupert Murdoch’s Former Aspen Estate Lists for Just Shy of $30M

When media mogul Rupert Murdoch isn’t running News Corp, he is buying and selling real estate. And one of the properties that graced his roster was once this 12,000-plus-square-foot Aspen estate. Located just three miles from downtown in a secluded Starwood community, it boasts 24/7 gated security, views of Elk Mountain, private tennis courts and groomed Nordic trails to take advantage of winter fun.

Now for sale asking $29.85 million, the six-bedroom, six-bathroom (plus three half baths) home was fully remodeled in 2016. Its lodge-inspired interiors cannot be dated, thanks to handcrafted timber trusses and beams, stone fireplaces, wide-plank wood floors and stonework incorporated throughout. According to Robb Report, Murdoch owned the home from the early 1980s until selling it for $5 million in 1995.

It sold in 2005 for $7 million, then again in 2014 for $7.5 million. While this current listing sees the steepest jump, the increase in value has been steady over the years. “For many, Aspen is also a safe haven—a place where real estate is viewed not only as a retreat, but as an important part of an investment portfolio, supported by enduring demand from buyers seeking a foothold in this extraordinary community,” the team at Aspen Snowmass/Sotheby’s International Realty relayed to dailyDEEDS.

The estate has all the makings of a mountain resort getaway: a high-ceilinged living room with grand fireplace, an indoor pool, and a primary suite with a spa-inspired steam room. The possibilities for entertainment extend outside as well, where a double-sided fireplace, open-air bar and kitchen, and multiple seating vignettes are screaming for an aprés ski soiree.

Mark Lewis, Chantal (Charlie) Henderson, Kristen Maley, Doug Nehasil and Jamie Daniels of Aspen Snowmass/Sotheby’s International Realty share the listing.
