SweetWater Brewing Company founder Freddy Bensch, and his wife, Jennifer, have just listed their thoroughly remodeled Telluride, Colorado home for $13.4 million. And, while renovations of this magnitude may, to some, seem like a complete glaze over what a property once was, that was not the case for these sellers.
“There are very few opportunities to thoughtfully preserve a home from this era while preparing it for another century of life,” the couple shared. “From the beginning, we viewed ourselves as stewards of the property rather than simply developers. We wanted to respect its story and ensure that its historic character remained an important part of the neighborhood for generations to come.”
That is certainly what kept brewing in their minds throughout the transformation, in which they tapped Tommy Hein Architects. Telluride is best known for its dramatic alpine landscape and high-end ski scene, but this home also pays homage to the town’s mining history. Built in 1900 and located in Telluride’s National Historic District, the residence honors its storied past while incorporating modern design ideals.
