Actress Debra Messing Aims to Sell Her Glamorous Longtime Upper East Side Apartment

Debra Messing, best known for her Emmy award-winning role in sitcom “Will & Grace” and for leading in rom-coms like “The Wedding Date” and “The Women,” has made New York City her home base for years. The celeb picked up this full-floor Upper East Side residence in 2014 for $5.5 million, according to Robb Report, and made herself quite comfortable here. Now, with her son all grown up, Messing is looking to downsize (as many can relate to) and just listed the apartment for $6.495 million.

Perched within a circa-1928 boutique co-op, the four-bedroom home shows off elegant details like tray ceilings and timeless moldings, but also the glamorous vision of Lee Stahl, founder of design-build firm TRH New York. The actress tapped him to transform the interiors when she first arrived, then again for help in 2017 when a fire from a neighbor damaged the property.

The panache he introduced is immediately palpable, with sparkling light fixtures making a statement throughout. Other stand-out design features include the glossy, cherry-red library and the primary suite’s custom walk-in closet/dressing room. Ample windows and high ceilings set the scene for any style of decor to work beautifully here, however.

The building itself also has grand design allure. Raymond Hood and John M. Howells, the architects behind Rockefeller Center, were commissioned by Joseph Medill Patterson nearly 100 years ago to create this Art Deco gem. Located steps from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and Central Park, it’s the quintessential Upper East Side spot.

Cathy Franklin of The Corcoran Group holds the listing. As for where Messing is looking to downsize to, perhaps we’ll have the scoop soon.
