Just over six months into 2022, there’s a new record to beat for New York City’s most expensive sale of the year. Atop Fifth Avenue’s new development in an iconic building, Aman New York, the property known as the Jala Penthouse clinched the title early this month for $74.34 million. This transaction flew past the previous 2022 record sale of 432 Park Ave for $70.5 million, which took place in April according to the NY Post.
Aman New York occupies the famed Crown Building designed by Warren and Wetmore, the same architecture firm that created Grand Central Terminal. The restaurants and hotel within Aman’s new venture will open August 2nd, but the 22 special residences including this record-breaking spread, are ready for occupancy now.
So, beyond the legendary building, what makes this penthouse worthy of such a closing price? Occupying the entire 20th floor, the 6,971-square-foot penthouse lives up to the record with its design and amenities. Arriving via the private elevator into the unit’s own lobby, the space opens to jaw-dropping views of the Manhattan skyline.
Beyond the foyer, four bedrooms and five bathrooms are a refuge from the exciting flurry of the city. The primary bedroom is certainly the star of the show, complete with underfloor heating, a walk-in closet, a personal outdoor terrace with a jacuzzi, and, of course, a luxurious bathroom overlooking Central Park. Still, the real wow factor starts out on the 3,421-square-foot wrap-around terrace. Exceeding expectations, it offers a 49 x 15 saltwater pool and jacuzzi, and a cabana affixed with a bathroom. Not the New York City most people live in!
With ownership in the Aman, the new owner is also welcome to access all of the building’s amenities, which include a 25,000-square-foot spa, wellness and fitness areas, as well as the restaurants downstairs.
With plenty of 2022 left, a new record may be set in time. For now, Patricia Vance of Douglas Elliman represented the mystery buyer, while Amie Buchanan, the Global Director of Residences for Aman handled the sale.
