Located just over the New York border and adjacent to Greenwich, Armonk is a beautiful town brimming with real estate treasures. One such gem has just come onto the market asking $2.195 million, and it’s a midcentury lovers’ dream. When you think of New York and Connecticut homes, Colonials may come to mind first, but there are many show-stopping midcentury moderns for sale in the area.Designed and built in 1957 by architect Arthur Witthoefft of SOM, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom abode is directly connected to the lush forest that surrounds it thanks to ample floor-to-ceiling windows. The sleek, 25-by-95-foot rectangle structure won an AIA First Honor Award in 1962, the highest honor the organization bestows.According to Dwell, Witthoefft lived there with his wife until 1989 when they sold it to move to Florida. Once it changed hands a few times, the residence deteriorated until a pair of avid midcentury enthusiasts came along and snapped it up in 2007. They went above and beyond to bring the house back to its former glory and keep as many original details as possible. They even contacted Witthoefft so he could consult on the project. The slender exterior remains defined by the dramatic contrast of the black steel frame and white brick. Inside, clean lines and sparse furnishings allow the architecture to be the star.Amy F. Via of Houlihan Lawrence has the special listing, which is now on the on the State & National Registry of Historic Places. Curbed first reported that it is for sale.
