Bee a Host

Mason Bees

Celebrate Earth Day next week, by hosting a summer colony of efficient pollinators. Unlike honeybees, solitary Mason Bees don’t inhabit hives. Gentle, non-aggressive, they don’t swarm or sting and are wonderful to watch dipping through blossoms in the yard.  A starter kit mailed from Rent Mason Bees includes a tube of ready to hatch cocoons, a bee house to affix to a sheltered wall outdoors, and a nesting block to house this year’s crop of cocoons which the female bees will create over the summer.

Once installed, the bees are essentially maintenance free until September when you put the nesting block full of new cocoons back into the box provided and return it to Rent Mason Bees for the cocoons to be harvested and maintained in hibernation over the winter.

Detailed brochures and online videos describe installation, and time is short – cocoons are ready to hatch and these are the last days of 2026 to send away for a colony starter kit to host for this summer.
