A backyard in Manhattan is a luxury. One that spans nearly 700 square feet and is attached to a four-bedroom duplex in the coveted Upper East Side is another story. At 165 East 62nd Street, a rare combination is on offer—the privacy of a townhouse with the convenience of a full-service building. And there’s the star-studded allure of being on the site that used to be Brooke Shields’ home.
According to Cityrealty, Michael Paul Enterprises Vail Associates Architects combined two townhouses (one being Shields’) to create five condominiums in 2016. One of said units is now asking $33,000 per month (a price drop from $35,000). The four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom residence spans a total of 2,481 square feet across two levels. With a lovely 668-square-foot private garden, there is a total of more than 3,100 square feet of indoor/outdoor space. Floor-to-ceiling windows connect the outdoor space directly to the main living and dining areas.
Wide-plank oak floors, beamed ceilings and a natural palette give the home a warmer feel than some of the ultra-modern Upper East Side oases we tend to see. A contemporary kitchen is decked out in stone countertops, Miele appliances and a concrete-brick backsplash, all evoking that same sleek and clean feel throughout.
Raymond Keller with Brown Harris Stevens doesn’t think this home will linger on the market. “East 62nd Street between Lex and Third is one of those timeless, tree-lined Upper East Side blocks that feels tucked away from the city while placing you right at the center of it,” he says. “Finding a quality four-bedroom rental here is difficult enough, but finding one that pairs a private garden with the white-glove amenities of modern construction is nearly impossible.”
Raymond Keller, Shannon Kausch and Lisa Fleisher of Brown Harris Stevens hold the rental listing.
