He’s dashing, has a gorgeous wife, makes millions of dollars directing and acting in multi-million-dollar movies, and owns a mansion in the English countryside. But even the man who has everything occasionally misfires. Residents of Sonning, Berkshire—the U.K. village where George Clooney bought a nine-bedroom 17th-century home—aren’t too keen on their new neighbor’s renovation plans. Since the spring, dozens of tradesmen have been at work on the property, installing a movie theater, entrance gates, a conservatory, and a new pool and pool house—and ripping up roads, leaving behind debris, putting up unsightly temporary fencing, and causing traffic jams in the process. No stiff upper lips here, as locals apparently have had enough. Perhaps Clooney might reconsider selling his place on Lake Como (he reportedly has an offer on it), just in case he needs a backup plan.
