LongHouse Reserve Special Events

The annual summer gala and an outdoor piano concert in East Hampton.

Along with admiring the glorious gardens and exhibits of East Hampton’s LongHouse Reserve, visitors have been celebrating at special events. A gala evening with a fine arts auction and an outdoor piano concert drew appreciative fans and supporters.

LUMINOSITY was the theme of the annual summer gala held in July with special honorees Vija Celmins, Mary Jane, and Charles Brock. Board members and guests mingled for cocktails among the garden’s artfully placed sculptures and examined 71 paintings and sculptures donated by celebrated artists such as Eric Fischl, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Andeson, which were auctioned to raise proceeds. Open air dinner was served in a tent erected in the garden.

An outdoor piano concert on an August evening was a feast for the senses as audience members gazed at the garden’s beauty and sipped wine while listening to the virtuoso performance of celebrated pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner. Sponsored by philanthropist Barbara Tober, the open-air concert featured works by Bach, Ravel, Chopin—each composition introduced by Sanchez-Werner who recounted its history and current relevance.

Following a post-concert reception among the sculptures and native plantings, guests proceeded to a buffet dinner presented on the LongHouse patio. Along with saluting Sanchez-Werner and his fiancé Tanya Yajnik, guests lifted glasses to toast the August 5 birthday anniversary of founder Jack Lenor Larsen whose vision created the 16-acre sanctuary, a gift benefitting the community with programs in art, nature, and wellness.
