These days, it’s one’s duty in life to be agreeable—not only to others, but also to our planet. As sustainability is becoming more chic than ever, we’re finding that some of the eco-friendliest choices for our homes are also the most stylish. Here, for Earth Day, four fabulous products with their eyes on the future.
The Abstra Collection, Kohler WasteLAB
The Abstra Collection—a series of brushed and matte tiles by Kohler WasteLAB—is avant-garde and abstract. The tiles are made from nearly 100 percent recycled waste materials. Not WasteLAB’s first foray into sustainable home products, these ceramics are ideal for residential and commercial installations.
Silestone by Cosentino
HybriQ technology is reshaping Silestone by Cosentino‘s product line. The luxury design company has committed to making 100% of its surface products with the sustainable technology. The new manufacturing method and product composition—which allows manufacturing with 99% reused water, 100% renewable electric energy, and zero water discharge or particle emissions—comes not at the expense of performance nor beauty. Each is formed from a raw mineral and recycled material formula on par with quartz. A bevy of stunning colors from Sunlit Days—its first carbon-neutral series—can be found on its website. Options range from the rusty Arcilla Red to a refreshing sea foam shade dubbed Posidonia Green.
RoomMates, York Wallcoverings
North America’s oldest and largest wallcoverings manufacturer has as of late dabbled in several different sustainable manufacturing practices. But, from now until April 30, the company is also focused on non-profit giving. RoomMates, a York subsidiary specializing in peel and stick wallpaper, is focusing this year’s giving on reforestation. Every order placed through April 30 on yorkwallcoverings.com or roommatesdecor.com sees the brands donate one dollar to One Tree Planted, where one dollar plants one tree. This now-annual initiative also incorporates Arbor Day.
H2Wise by Phyn
Another Kohler entry comes with the company’s work on H2Wise by Phyn, whose smart water monitoring technology keeps track of water usage and detects leaks. Such a sleek product not only conserves water, but also saves costs in the long run. From a mobile app, KOHLER Konnect, you can run a diagnostic test to detect any potential issues concerning water usage in your home.
