Many vacationgoers are seeking ways to travel consciously with minimal emissions. A company, Neste, is answering this need with their new ‘zero cabin’ dubbed “Nolla” cabin.
Designed by Finnish designer Robin Falck, Nolla is located just outside Helsinki, on the Vallisaari island,the cabin is made from sustainable materials, such as plywood and flooring that is coated with a non-toxic, water-soluble varnish. This model is said to represent an approach to living where the focus is on the outdoors as well as a living environment that has a minimal environmental impact–both on carbon dioxide emissions and concrete impact.
This compact cabin is the size of a small bedroom and can easily be assembled and transported without heavy machinery, leaving its environment nearly untouched. The energy supply of the cabin is entirely renewable and its energy and heating is generated by Fortum solar panels. It has a Wallas stove, which is reserved for cooking and heating that runs entirely on Neste MY Renewable Diesel, made 100% from waste and residue. The Aava Lines raft operating between Helsinki city center and Vallisaari will also run on Neste MY Renewable diesel that is said to be able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%.
The Nolla cabin is available for booking at $35 per night through Airbnb.
