In addition to the main house situated on a contemplative cove in Darien, architect Andrew Bartolotta designed a diminutive pool house that he and the project’s interior designer, Amy Zolin, refer to as “The Cube.” The Beinfield Architecture-designed pool was installed by Signature Pools.
The rear facade is punctuated with numerous picture windows to take in views of the cove and pool.
The cabana interior has a stainless steel fireplace from Design Within Reach; the Gloster chairs and sofa are upholstered in waterproof material.
The front door is reached via a footbridge; landscape design is by landscape architect Katherine Kamen.
The living room sectional, swivel chairs, cocktail table and floor lamp are from DDC. The rug is custom through Clarity Home Interiors.
The living room Womb chair and ottoman, originally designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, are through Design Within Reach.
Vibrant yellow mudroom cabinetry is through Effeti USA. The floor is composed of glazed porcelain tiles from Stone Source. The pendant light is by Lightology.
The kitchen, dining area and living room meld, though strategically placed furniture and colors help demarcate the individual spaces. The sectional is adorned with Nobilis throw pillows.
The main staircase is the star element of the space. “Depending on the light in the room, the staircase takes on a bronze or black cast,” says Bartolotta. “While is appears to be floating on its own, there is a super structure holding it firmly in position.” A Bocci light fixture has a customized drop of 16 feet from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture.
The splayed-legged dining table, designed by Christian Woo, is composed of steel and American walnut and surrounded by De la Spada chairs. The bamboo and silk rug is custom through Woven Concepts.
The family room provides more doses of color, particularly in the Holly Hunt purple velvet on the sectional and the lacquered Tod side table from DDC. Maya Romanoff wallcovering is made of woven natural grasses, and the custom rug is made of New Zealand wool.
The master suite has a soothing and muted palette. The Milo Baughman-designed reclining chair is through DDC; scones are through Olympia Lighting.
In the master bathroom, the vanity features Kohler sinks, Waterworks faucets, and a tarnished-silver Apparatus sconce. An MTI Boutique Collection Elise tub through Torrco is fitted with Waterworks hardware.
