Going, going, gone… just like that, David Ortiz’s modern manse has officially switched hands. Ortiz’s custom-built Miami haven hit the market in February of this year and was originally listed for $12.5 million, but just sold for $10.55 million. Though the buyer got a sweet discount, it’s still a major home run for the seller as it was the priciest sale to ever happen in the Pinecrest neighborhood. And, Ortiz is used to setting records.
The Dominican Republic-born player made his way to Boston in 2003, where he played for 14 of his 20 years in the MLB. He’s considered one of the best clutch hitters in MLB history, and certainly in Red Sox history. In 2016 he retired and ultimately opted for warmer temperatures, ideal for watching rather than playing games. Ortiz and his wife Tiffany created this Florida paradise back in 2019 and relished in the luxurious spot for four years.
The house is sleek and contemporary, boasting a bold black and white palette aside from a few navy accent pieces and, of course, some red to pay homage to Boston. The nearly 11,000-square-foot retreat is prime for entertaining and tailgating–whether inside or out, there’s more than enough room to kick back. The player chose to create a “Boom Boom” sports bar as well as a magnificent theater that keeps a community, stadium-esque spirit alive at home.
A total of five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms knock it out of the park in terms of space, though it’s unlikely to comfortably host a baseball team overnight. The primary suite is the MVP, surrounded by views of the beautiful outdoor spaces and holding a spa-like bathroom.
Helping Ortiz close the chapter, Michael Martinez of One by Sotheby’s International Realty held the listing.
