Joan Rivers’ longtime, former Upper East Side triplex penthouse just listed once again. The 4,661-square-foot spread perched atop the full-service Spencer Condominium includes five bedrooms, a dramatic ballroom, and outdoor terraces overlooking Central Park. Plus, an array of neo-French-style, ornate detailing.
If you’re thinking this city home seems fit for royalty, that’s probably because it is. After Rivers’ passing, it was widely reported that Saudi prince Muhammad bin Fahd purchased the triplex for $28 million. In the decade since then, the glamorous Manhattan residence has been seen quietly coming on and off the market.
Just earlier this month, the posh unit was taken off the market (it was then listed with Dolly Lenz Real Estate), but swiftly returned with Zina Raslan and Carl Gambino of The Gambino Group at Compass, who have priced it at $28 million.
The late comedian’s 55-year-old daughter, Melissa Rivers, recently told People Magazine she imagines her mother would be upset that the home sits vacant. Apparently, Joan Rivers’ best friend still lives across the street and has only seen the lights on a handful of times. “That apartment was so special and filled with such warmth, laughter and happiness that it [would] make her really sad. I think she would be,” Rivers told the publication. Perhaps soon, a new buyer will find it and infuse it with vibrance and entertainment once again.
Newly representing the gem, Raslan shares, “It’s truly a masterpiece of Gilded Age grandeur—this penthouse at 1 E 62nd Street, designed by the legendary Horace Trumbauer, combines timeless elegance with an unbeatable location just steps from Central Park, perfectly capturing New York’s storied luxury.”
