As you may be aware of, praised architect and designer Thierry Despont passed away this summer at the age of 75. The visionary leaves behind a legacy on special Manhattan projects—from designing the interiors at 220 Central Park South to working on the conversion of the Woolworth Building to restoring the Statue of Liberty. However, his personal residences offer a unique peek into what he created for his private use. In the past few years, his Tribeca townhouse was seen on the market and so was his stunning Southampton estate. The latter has now relisted for $19.95 million, which first came up for sale roughly a year ago priced at $23.5 million.
Known as Rosewood Farm Estate, the manicured property spans 34 acres and is steeped in history. Once the Southampton Riding & Hunt Club, it still retains its stately stature and equestrian feel.
A cobblestone courtyard greets you before entering the 5,536-square-foot main house, where six bedrooms and sun-drenched spaces await. Across a field, perhaps once trotted on by champion horses, the pool house is the ultimate wellness refuge. It offers a lounge area, workout room, sauna, and steam shower all while being steps from the long infinity pool.
The ethereal grounds roll and roll, encompassing a 2,115-square-foot guest house, a gazebo, and mature specimen trees from Africa. It’s easy to imagine the special parties and gatherings Despont may have had on the property. He was the one to grow it to this size, collecting three contiguous parcels between 2011 and 2013 to create the expansive Hamptons retreat.
Michaela Keszler, Paul Brennan, and Martha Gundersen of Douglas Elliman hold the listing.
