Leonard Bernstein’s Family Sells Their Midtown Penthouse to an NYC Broker

While late and great composer Leonard Bernstein famously lived at the Dakota, one of Manhattan’s most esteemed addresses, his family also had a Midtown penthouse that served them well. They purchased the three-bedroom penthouse atop the Park Vendom in 1996, after his passing in 1990. According to the New York Post, they used it to manage his affairs and even host parties. Ready to move on from it nearly 30 years later, the Bernstein family has now sold the splendid spread for $2,999,999.

The Post reports that Broadway/TV producer Flody Suarez and Gino Filippone of The Corcoran Group snapped up the traditional, light-filled pad. Appropriately, Filippone represented the pair in the deal, which they are both over the moon about.

Suarez shared with the Post, “We walked in and immediately felt at home. It didn’t hurt to be surrounded by Bernstein’s beautiful furniture, memorabilia and art — some of which they were kind enough to leave for us.” Meanwhile, Filippone commented, “The apartment didn’t speak to us, it sang to us. They passed the baton. It’s a legacy apartment and a generational buy because these penthouse apartments never come up.”

Besides the Bernstein legacy and special, one-of-a-kind items, the new owners gain a classic floor plan spanning 1,941 square feet. Timelessly attractive, the spaces hold great built-ins, polished woodwork, and delights like black and white checkered flooring and a cozy fireplace. Perched high in the 1931-built towers, it also offers a wraparound brick terrace and stunning skyline views.

Alexandra Rhodie, also of The Corcoran Group, represented the sellers in this recent deal.
