“Transforming our Tudor home confirmed that interior design was my true calling,” says Danielle Chiprut of Danielle Rose Design Co. “That’s when I decided to fully pursue a career in creating thoughtfully designed spaces for others.” Having studied retail store design and visual merchandising, Chiprut always loved creating beautiful and functional spaces. She started her firm in 2019, designing spaces “meant to tell a story, blending beauty and functionality in a way that feels welcoming and timeless.”
You designed the covered terrace and side porch at the 2023 Hampton Designer Showhouse, presented by HC&G. How did you come up with your vision for that space?
We drew our inspiration from the beautiful Calacatta Capraia marble used for our custom bar table. Its rich veining and dramatic pattern set the tone for the entire design. From there, we wanted to create a terrace that felt like a true escape—a space that would transport you and serve as the perfect setting for entertaining. We embraced our signature style by layering in saturated colors, block print fabrics, brass lighting, natural elements, and custom furniture to showcase all of our favorite design elements!
What was the most challenging part about designing your space for the Showhouse?
Showhouses are filled with beautiful, bold designs, so it’s easy to feel the pressure to go bigger or more dramatic. For us, the goal was to balance making an impact with creating a space that felt authentic, welcoming, and reflective of the way we approach real homes. The tight timeline was another challenge—we had to make quick decisions and pivot when needed, all while ensuring every detail felt intentional. But those challenges also pushed us to get creative, think outside the box, and showcase what we do best.
What was the most rewarding part of participating in the Showhouse?
Most of our designs are for private homes, so they’re typically only seen through photographs. It was incredible to have people walk through the room, get up close to the details, and feel the textures that we carefully selected. Being able to share our work in such a tangible way made all the effort so worthwhile!

How do you approach including color in a project?
We love using rich, layered colors to add depth and personality to a space. These tones truly light us up and get us excited about the design from the very beginning! When incorporating color, we always start by considering how our clients want the room to feel. Jewel tones, like deep emeralds, indigo blues, and warm rusts, bring a sense of richness and character that instantly elevate a space.

What advice do you have for those who are afraid to experiment with color?
Start small! Incorporating color doesn’t have to mean painting an entire room or choosing a bright sofa. Instead, try introducing it through smaller accents like pillows, artwork, or a colorful rug. Once you get comfortable, you can layer in a rich wall color or a statement piece of furniture. Another great approach is to stay within one color family—using varying shades and tones can create depth without feeling overwhelming. And if you’re still hesitant, consider jewel tones or earthy hues, which tend to feel timeless and sophisticated rather than trendy. Color should enhance your space and bring you joy, so choose what resonates most with you!

What role does lighting play in your projects?
To us, lighting isn’t just a piece of the design puzzle—it’s one of the most exciting parts! We absolutely love the hunt for that perfect fixture, because the right lighting can completely transform a room. When working with young families, we often see them shy away from investing in delicate items like rugs, but they’re always willing to splurge on beautiful, statement lighting. It’s a long-lasting element that enhances the home without being affected by everyday wear and tear.
Do you have a go-to lighting source?
We’re constantly on the lookout for fixtures that exude soul and character. From unique finds on 1st Dibs to the stunning hammered brass pieces from Arteriors, we love discovering lighting that not only fits the space but elevates it, making each room feel polished, inviting, and distinctly you.
Favorite space to design?
We absolutely love designing kitchens and bathrooms! These spaces are where function and beauty intersect, and we get to bring our creativity to life by working with stunning natural stones and selecting the perfect combination of finish materials.
Biggest design peeve?
Matchy-matchy furniture. We love when a space feels collected and curated over time, with pieces that tell a story and feel thoughtfully layered. Even if everything is sourced at once, the goal is for the room to look like it evolved naturally, with unique elements that complement each other rather than feeling like a showroom set. It’s all about creating a home that feels personal, welcoming, and full of character.

Where do you draw inspiration from?
Travel is a big one—the colors, textures, and architecture we see around the world always spark new ideas. We’re constantly on the hunt for special materials, like fabrics that light us up, or wallpaper and tile we discover on our travels. Vintage markets are another favorite source for finding unique pieces and unexpected details that bring character to a space. But honestly, some of our best inspiration comes from our clients—their stories, personalities, and the way they want their home to feel.
