The Disney/Pixar film Up is all about being adventurous, embracing life’s surprises, and exploring the world. This year marks 15 years since its release in 2009, so Airbnb decided to commemorate the film with a free and once-in-a-lifetime overnight stay. A house modeled exactly after Carl’s home from the movie, complete with 8,000 balloons, awaits in New Mexico. Requests to be the lucky ones chosen for this stay close on May 14, so adventurers need to act fast to try to get in on the fun.
A movie filled with love and hope, Up is the story of retired balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen and his late wife Ellie’s dream of traveling to Paradise Falls. Now up to four people looking for a magical stay can experience life through Carl’s eyes, with every detail of the house identical to the film. Even down to the balloons that lift the house (yes, the house goes airborne with the help of a crane!). The house will float off as the last “wow” moment of the stay as guests watch from the ground.
Those interested can read more about the two bedroom, one bathroom house on the Airbnb listing, where Mr. Fredricksen will tell you all about his dreams and his cozy life in the house. Part of the fun, especially for a family with kids or nostalgic movie fans, will be earning adventure badges just as Junior Wilderness Explorer, Russell, did throughout the movie.
While those visiting the New Mexico getaway just north of Santa Fe won’t get to meet Dug the talking dog, everything else aims for total film authenticity. That means Bran flakes for breakfast, a staple of Carl’s routine.
If you’re ready to write your own Adventure Book, bring some friends and celebrate 15 years of Up. This is part of Airbnb’s new Icons collection, created to deliver special experiences connected to particular cultural phenomenons or figures.
