The Upper East Side is known for being posh, but it’s never seen a price tag like this. A grandiose townhouse located at 12 East 69th Street is currently in contract for around $80 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. If the house closes for this price, or even $20 million less, it will become the most expensive townhouse sold in New York City to date, beating out a $53 million sale in 2006.While the potential closing price might make your jaw drop, it’s technically a discount. In 2013, the home listed for a whopping $114 million and later dropped to a still-staggering $98 million in 2014. The 1884-built abode was then taken off the market and has had no stirrings until quietly finding a buyer earlier this month.Vincent Viola, billionaire and Florida Panthers owner, and his wife are the sellers of the approx. 20,000-square-foot manse. The couple stands to make a massive profit from the transaction considering they bought the home in 2005 for $20 million. During the decade the Violas owned the home, they updated it with over-the-top luxury amenities. The townhouse now boasts a panic room, an indoor heated saltwater pool, a recording studio, a home theater with velvet seats and so much more. Not to mention the ornate décor and Versailles-like finishes.Paula Del Nunzio of Brown Harris Stevens reportedly represented the sellers in the off-market deal.
