Basketball Great Kevin Garnett’s Former Malibu Mansion Seeks $48M After Being Reimagined

What happens when an NBA legend’s unfinished Malibu custom mansion lands in the hands of a Swiss architect? The result is this extraordinary $48 million coastal estate. Kevin Garnett bought the nearly 6.7-acre property in 2003 and commissioned the opulent home before selling it in near-complete form in 2021. Instead of seeing its unfinished state as a downside, the new owner embraced personalizing and elevating it further. Four years of transformation later, the compound has emerged as a sleek modern retreat, where monumental scale, walls of glass, and sweeping Pacific Ocean views take center stage.

“We acquired the property partially completed and saw the opportunity to finish the home the way a residence of this caliber demands,” owner Vladimir Valsky told Mansion Global. Valsky enlisted celebrity-favorite, Swiss architect Roger Kurath, who reimagined the residence with European materials and a distinctly modern point of view.

Spanning approximately 11,000 square feet, the six-bedroom home is expansive and clean in its aesthetic. Soaring ceilings and vast expanses of glass flood the interiors with California light, while pale stone, warm wood, dark cabinetry, and softly textured finishes temper the crisp architectural lines. Walls seemingly disappear toward the terraces, allowing the landscape and Pacific to become part of the interiors. That same sleek sensibility carries into a chef’s kitchen outfitted with Miele appliances, while a private movie theater and dedicated wine room provide possibilities for more intimate, cozy ambiance. Given that the home is located in Malibu, its separate wellness space and yoga studio fit right in.

Further wow factors that are oh-so-Malibu include the 65-by-30-foot infinity pool, 50 avocado trees, and pickleball court. Set next to an equestrian center and looking out to the ocean, the estate is undeniably peaceful, too.

Tomer Fridman and Aaron Kirman of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California and Chris Cortazzo of Compass share the listing.
