Artist Apryl Miller’s Full-Floor Condo Asking $8.75M Might Be the Most Colorful Home in NYC

In a time where neutral palettes and clean lines are all the rage in real estate, seeing a home exploding with color and personality is a breath of fresh air. This Lenox Hill condo owned and designed by Apryl Miller, an abstract artist known for using color exuberantly, gives buyers exactly that. Miller purchased the full-floor unit from the developer and has been its sole owner, but now the striking home is for sale for the first time in 25 years asking $8,750,000.

Spanning over 4,000 square feet, the Upper East Side residence captures beautiful views. But, the scenes inside are what is drawing the most attention with this listing. Bringing her work home, Miller made this apartment her canvas and its unique design would be pretty impossible to replicate. As Salon titled an 2012 interview with the artist, she has been “living in [her] art.”

Miller told Salon, “I wanted to create an environment that when you walked in, you didn’t make all these associations with other places and experiences. I’m not into being anyone’s customer. I didn’t want my house populated with other recognizable furniture pieces and accessories.” She also mused at one point, “I really wasn’t an artist until this house. It just came out like a magician with a silk scarf, and it was endless.”

The out-of-the-box home reflects unlimited expression and creativity, which may be why Miller had to go through several architects to achieve her vision. To the west one can find the chef’s kitchen and main living spaces. Disco balls and contrasting patterns, mismatched chairs and door knobs, and kitchen cabinetry that looks like a drawing come to life all encourage a sense of wonder and imagination. To the east of the home are all of the private spaces, which entail four bedrooms and four full bathrooms. The primary ensuite is outfitted in a rainbow tile and has swirling patterns on the ceiling, but it’s still easy to relax in the standalone soaker tub.

Miller’s artistic living environment may not be for everyone, but that’s okay. Buyers can keep everything as is, select which statement-making elements to hold onto, or go into full remodel mode. Stan Ponte and Colin Montgomery of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing, which is arguably the most colorful home in New York City.
