Award-Winning Bahamas Compound Designed by Late Architect Thierry Despont Lists for $42M

This year some breathtaking, and extremely pricey, properties have hit the market all around the world. From celebrity homes like Billy Joel’s Long Island residence and Ryan Seacrest’s Napa Valley estate to special villas in Italy, Spain, and England, there are many exciting offerings for those elite buyers with not just millions, but tens of millions to spend. And, there’s a new one to check out as well. A waterfront compound just listed for $42 million in the Bahamas, designed by the renowned late architect Thierry Despont.

Named Zehava, the award-winning home sits in an ultra-private neighborhood and looks out to lush landscaping and turquoise ocean views. Former J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler commissioned Despont to build this Harbour Island paradise in 2010, according to the Robb Report, and it is on its second owner now.

The contemporary main house sits on 3.5 acres and wows with its angular architecture and rich wood details. Versus going for a coastal blue and white interior palette, Despont decked out the home with an organic yet grand constant intermingling of solid poured concrete, natural Brazilian hardwood, and cream-colored travertine stone. Of course, glass also plays a pivotal role. In the main living areas, walls of glass door completely open to a long deck and allow the island breeze to float inside. The primary bedroom boasts the same indoor-outdoor treatment, while one more bedroom awaits in this structure.

For visitors or staff, there are two detached guest houses, each with two bedrooms of their own. The property also has a pickleball court, plenty of lawn space for yoga or playing games, and a walking path right out to Pink Sands Beach.

Matthew Marco of BOND Bahamas represents the architecturally-significant, luxury compound. Right now, it’s the most expensive residence on the market in the Bahamas.
