You might be familiar with the photographs of Melvin Sokolsky from flipping through the pages of Harper’s Bazaar and other high-fashion magazines. But, it’s not often you see a glimpse into the late Surrealist fashion photographer’s personal life. Sokolsky passed in 2022, and his legacy lives on through his many unique photographs and also with his Beverly Hills home, which just hit the market. The photographer’s son, cinematographer Bing Sokolsky, is selling the welcoming property for $6,999,000.
You can see how the Beverly Hills spread would be a great haven for any creative. In fact, it was built in 1939 and designed by Frederic Barienbrock for a silent screen actress. Sokolsky moved into the home in the 1970s. During his long tenure there, the photographer shot fashion shoots for Vogue and The New York Times.
The English-country style abode is timeless, yet comfortable. While the home isn’t necessarily flashy (like some Beverly Hills homes), Degas-inspired powder room is certainly a wow-factor. A wood-paneled study, fireplaces, and a rustic farmhouse kitchen add a sense of warmth throughout. Windows frame views of Los Angeles in the distance. Of course, Sokolsky’s images hang throughout the five-bedroom, four-bathroom home.
