Nantucket Estate Sets Record for Most Expensive Home Sale in Massachusetts History

Shut the front door! Literally, because a huge new residential record has been set in Massachusetts on the small island of Nantucket. Selling for an exact $38,127,000, the sale closed on June 30 and has made quite the wave.

While Nantucket is less than 1% of Massachusetts’ total square mileage, the exclusive island is no stranger to making its mark on Massachusetts real estate. According to the New York Post, the highest sale up until this point was a $36 million waterfront property also on Nantucket.

The new title-holder, known as “Beam Ends,” is jaw-dropping. The most recent owners and likely sellers were venture capitalist Evan Jones and his wife Cindy, who bought the home for $16 million in 2006 per the NY Post. While it may seem like quite the price hike, today’s buyer looks for airy spaces, updated kitchens, and space for entertaining—all of which the 15,000-square-foot Nantucket home checks off, plus more. Not to mention, with remote work on the rise, Nantucket is not just a summer escape for some but a potential year-round homestead.

It is nearly impossible to cover every magnificent aspect of this four-acre waterfront estate. Imagine candlelit evenings under the pergola wrapped in natural foliage, enjoying dinner and conversation with the Nantucket Harbor always in sight. For overnight guests who wouldn’t dare leave, there are eight bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and four half bathrooms to utilize.

With properties like Neil Patrick Harris’ former townhome in Harlem or an Alexandria, VA home also setting records in their respective areas, this property is in good company. Marybeth Gilmartin and Shelly Tretter Lynch of Compass held the listing. Dalton Frazier of J Pepper Frazier Real Estate represented the buyers.
