Actress Suzanne Somers and her husband, Alan Hamel, are auctioning off their 73-acre estate perched on the rocky hills above Palms Springs. The pair, who has been going strong since 1977, first listed the sprawling property in 2008 for $35 million when they decided it was time to live on flat land, but have had little luck unloading the one-of-a-kind spread. Buyers now have a unique opportunity to bid on the eight-bedroom compound in a no reserve auction where the property will sell no matter what the price. Last listed at a steeply discounted $14.5 million, the estate could end up selling for any amount, be it higher or lower.
The compound boasts five French country-style structures, for a total of 7,281-square-feet, and feels more like a village. One of the villas is a striking rock house built by famed architect Albert Frey in the 1920s. It sits above the main residence against the mountainside and beautifully combines rustic and contemporary design aesthetics. Another villa is entirely devoted to being the ultimate master suite, offering outdoor showers, city views, and a private garden.
Ten outdoor living spaces connect the separate homes seamlessly. The compound also holds an amphitheater carved of stone, ravishing waterfalls and pools, hiking trails, a meditation garden, and a hidden spa.
The estate will be auctioned on January 31st through Concierge Auctions and is listed with Scott Lyle of Douglas Elliman. The story was first reported by TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
