Early Apple Developer Jon Rubinstein’s Remodeled San Francisco Home Hits the Market

Tech companies have flocked to San Francisco and Silicon Valley for over two decades, with one of the biggest companies headquartered there being Apple. So, their current or former executives also occupy these innovative areas. One pivotal former developer from Apple’s early days, Jon Rubinstein, owns this posh Pacific Heights condo with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Set within a historic building, the home was redone in the 60s and then again given another remodel when Rubinstein bought the property. Now asking $25.5 million, the residence is traditionally opulent and private, spread across an entire floor.

Rubinstein served as the Senior Vice President of Apple’s iPod division up until 2006, and played an integral role in the development of the iMac and the iPod. After leaving the company, Rubinstein took up various posts in several projects, but he was also very invested in the restoration of his San Francisco apartment. “We were fully committed to carefully returning this home to the beautiful design that the architect, Conrad A. Meussdorffer, created for the building 100 years ago, but we wanted to do that while incorporating state of the art, contemporary materials, amenities, security and the latest technology,” shares Rubinstein.

The Beaux-Arts building was erected in 1924, radiating elegance and sophistication at every turn. Rubinstein’s home sits on the fourth floor and he tasked architect Paul Davis and interior designer Morelli Forlani with restoring it. The 5,250-square-foot home opens to a stunning living space that looks out onto the Bay and also reflects classic grandeur. Parquet flooring and ornate marble fireplaces are reminiscent of the home’s Roaring Twenties roots, but the adjacent kitchen couldn’t be more opposite. It is sleek and moody, emphasizing clean lines. There are also beautiful terraces, accessed via the public spaces, for enjoying the city’s iconic scenery.

“We will miss this lovely apartment, but hope that the next owners will experience the same joy that we found in the expansive light, the stunning views and the wonderful environment for entertaining our family and friends,” says Rubinstein. Neal Ward of Compass holds the listing. It’s the first listing over $10 million in San Francisco this year.
