‘Gone with the Wind’ Star’s Former Beverly Hills Flats Manor, Dubbed The Rutherford House, Seeks $42M

This grand Beverly Hills Flats manor, dubbed “The Rutherford House” for the Old Hollywood actress that long owned it, just hit the market for no small sum: A whopping $42 million. Elegantly glamorous and sprawling, the property sits on Greenway Drive overlooking the prestigious Los Angeles Country Club and also enjoys views of the city beyond.

Ann Rutherford, a star of the ’30s and ’40s who appeared in Gone With the Wind as Scarlett O’Hara’s little sister and in the Andy Hardy film franchise, lived here for decades with her husband William Dozier, who created the 1960s “Batman” show. While it is undisclosed who the seller is this time around, the address has been a prize on the market in the past. It sold last for $7.55 million following Rutherford’s death in 2012, then underwent a meticulous renovation. With its refreshed look and finishes, the property listed for $39.9 million in 2017 and went on to change hands for roughly $27 million in 2018, according to Mansion Global.

The French Revival was built in 1938, and was actually first owned by former Beverly Hills mayor Edward Paul Dentzel. While the home’s original charm still shines through, the home has transformed quite a bit since then. The current sellers added a new wing above the garage, an elevator, and a Baja ledge to the pool while other past owners nearly doubled the footprint, landing the interiors at 13,678 square feet with five bedrooms today.
