John Mellencamp, who passed up on purchasing a $3.5 million Tribeca apartment previously owned by Emma Bloomberg, has now snagged a chic loft in the big city. The 1,800-square-foot unit located at 66 Grand Street closed for $2.3 million.Mellencamp’s new pad is a work-live gallery space, which is abundantly clear from the sprawling white walls, 13-foot ceilings, and large workshop room. The rocker bought the SoHo abode from photographer Antoine Verglas and gallerist Catherine Ahnell, who used it for her namesake contemporary art gallery according to Mansion Global. The open space could easily transform into a recording studio or just become a creative space for the music legend to jam. Elsewhere, the artsy spread boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a cozy living/dining area.Greg Kim of Sequoia Property Group had the luxe listing, which is surrounded by high-end stores and the most buzz-worthy restaurants. SoHo residents may soon spot Mellencamp and his actress girlfriend Meg Ryan, who snagged a unit in 443 Greenwich last year, out and about in the area.
