Known for designing unique and striking homes across Long Island, architect Norman Jaffe’s fame has long continued since his passing in 1993. One of his creations in East Hampton was announced to be headed to a no-reserve auction late last year, meaning there would be no minimum for the bidding. Now with the auction in full swing, the property last officially asking $27.5 million could sell for any price once the auction closes on January 5.
“This is arguably the best-dressed property in the Hamptons,” said Chad Roffers, President of Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions, in a press release on December 15th. “It was not only fitting to have the opening of bidding choreographed with yesterday evening’s live sale at Sotheby’s New York—our largest and most anticipated of the year—but also as the only property to conclude in the first week of the new year.”
And, what a way to kick off 2023 luxury Hamptons real estate! Sitting on prestigious Further Lane, the 4,356-square-foot home proudly shows off all the features of a Jaffe design. Angular ceilings, huge windows everywhere, and natural wood paneling throughout display his iconic vision. Holding four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the spacious circa-1980s home is infused with laidback sophistication all while looking out to gorgeous grounds. The three-acre lot offers a large pool and outdoor entertaining spaces with Two Mile Hollow and Egypt Beach close by.
The icing on top? This sale will also make a wonderful social impact. Under Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions’ Key for Key® giving program in partnership with Giveback Homes, its purchase will result in the building of a home for a family in need. As this special season of giving comes to an end, is there any better finale than to acquire an architecturally significant home while also providing a new residence for another family?
If that sounds good to you, bid away while you still can. Rebekah Baker of Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing agent and it is all being handled through Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions.
