Spas: New and Innovative Treatments

Spas from around the country come to New York to present a showcase of new and innovative treatments

Trump Spas provide full body care

One day last month more than a dozen members of the International Spa Association showed off some of their latest treatments at Gotham Hall in midtown. This showcase reception provided members of the press an opportunity to try out abbreviated versions of some of the services offered at hotels, resorts and spas around the nation.

First, I tried out a Baby Quasar LED Light Therapy manicure offered by the four branches of The Spa at Trump. After cleansing, a LED Red Light was used to work a hydrating serum into my hand to minimize wrinkles. Each Trump Spa offers its own shade of nail polish.  I preferred the calmest, silvery shade. www.thespaattrump.com.

Mohonk Mountain House up in New Paltz, NY, introduced an interactive “Fuel Your Face: Four Minutes to Fit Skin” treatment for men.  A new botanically rich organic skin care line formulated for unique male needs promises to clean, calm, moisturize and infuse nutrients in a treatment that can be enjoyed by women as well. www.mohonk.com

Wisconsin’s Kohler Waters Spa (a division of the company that makes plumbing fixtures) focuses on hydrotherapy in its Complete Harmony procedure, which starts with the ringing of a tuning bowl to help guests relax. This is followed by a breathing ritual that uses a basil, lavender and peppermint aromatherapy scent. After the mind is cleared and tension is released, a massage follows. Kohler also brought samples of the wonderful chocolate truffles developed by the head of the company.  www.kohlerwaterspa.com

Aspira came in from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to demonstrate its Chakra Garden Massage. Bundles of plants, flowers and herbs are positioned on the body and then the masseur unblocks and realigns the seven energy center Chakra points. www.aspiraspa.com

Dead Sea salts in skincare products developed by AHAVA were used to treat hands, arms, feet and legs in a treatment offered by the ELLE Spa at Miami Beach’s Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel where they “believe in your right to fall asleep during your treatment.” www.ellespamiami.com

Of the sessions I had time to try, my most relaxing treatment was a full Blue Tansy Foot Smoothie massage by Jason, who was working for Suite Spa, a company that has devised a portable spa cart which wheels into a home or hotel room and unfolds into a full spa center. www.suitespa.net

Although there wasn’t time to try all the procedures, before leaving we were given bags of samples to try out treatments at home.  This year’s bag was a blue paisley tote by SCOUT by Bungalow. www.bungalowco.com.  I’ll take it along when I go to visit spas across the country.
