Acclaimed playwright Edward Albee, who passed away in 2016, picked up this Montauk home in the 1960s and always made cherished of it. Up until his last days, the peaceful beachfront property was a respite for him and now, after entering contract in December, it has finally sold for $16 million. Although it didn’t get the $20 million it originally wanted, it is still a huge sum seeing as all proceeds of the sale are going towards his namesake foundation. What’s even more intriguing is that the buyer is said to be Ralph Lauren, although his camp hasn’t confirmed that yet. Whoever the lucky buyer is, he or she will gain 2,970-square-feet of fabulous living space and an enviable location with 200-feet of beach and almost 3 acres of land. As well as offering four bedrooms, three baths, and two half baths, there is also a tennis court and pool to indulge the new owner’s sportier side. While the interiors are spacious, they could use a facelift. A few tweaks here and there, plus the infusion of the new owner’s personal style, will undoubtedly push this Hamptons treasure into its next act.Paul Brennan and Ronald White of Douglas Elliman had the precious listing, which Mansion Global first reported finally closed.
